DESCRIPTION:
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group (ROFG) join forces this holiday season to celebrate Filipino culture with the Vamos A Belén: Pastores Dance Competition.
The Pastores Dance Competition is a national folk dance competition that highlights the interpretation of a single Pastores piece, based on the documented works of National Artist for Dance, Ramon A. Obusan.
Pastores, derived from the Spanish word for “shepherds,” is a beloved Christmas tradition reenacting the shepherds’ adoration of the Infant Jesus in Bethlehem. Typically performed in the days leading up to Christmas or on Christmas Eve, Pastores also refers to band of singers dressed as shepherds who go house to house, spreading holiday cheer through Christmas songs and dances.
Now in its fourth year, the competition will feature Pastores Tobog of Oas, Albay as the contest piece. This unique rendition stands out for its vibrant use of flower arches, small flags bearing Christmas wishes, and symbolic white sheep, adding a distinct charm to this treasured tradition.
Join us as we honor and bring to life this beautiful Filipino heritage through music, movement, and artistry!
