DESCRIPTION:
The Cultural Center of the Philippines launches Luminaries and Legacies: CCP Gawad Para sa Sining 2024 & Other CCP Institutional Awards, a week-long exhibition opening on 20 September 2024 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater at Circuit Makati.
Luminaries and Legacies highlights the Cultural Center of the Philippines as a premiere award-giving government institution, recognizing excellence in the arts. The exhibition is divided into two sections: the first featuring the CCP Gawad Para sa Sining 2024 awardees, and the second featuring CCP institutional awards.
The section on the CCP Gawad Para sa Sining 2024 features selected works by this year’s awardees through photographs, archival documents, and paraphernalia. The Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining is the highest award given by the Cultural Center of the Philippines that recognizes the excellence of Filipino artists and cultural workers that have consistently produced outstanding work or have contributed to the development of their particular art form. Awardees this year include: Generoso “Gener” Caringal, Jose Iñigo Homer “Joey” Ayala, Lea Salonga, Jose Maria Flores Lacaba, Jr., Miguel “Mike” De Leon, Mario O’Hara, Julie Lluch , Gino Gonzales, the Loboc Children’s Choir, Marilyn Gamboa, Sen. Edgardo J. Angara, and Zenaida “Nedy” R. Tantoco.
The section on CCP institutional awards presents select trophies spanning the history of the CCP, representations of awards given by the institution to distinguished artists and creative practitioners from 1970 to the present. These trophies crafted by Filipino visual artists– most of whom are CCP Thirteen Artists Awardees themselves –are not only symbols of recognition and achievement, but are also works of art themselves. Trophy designers in this section include artists such as National Artist Abdulmari Imao, Agnes Arellano, Imply Pilapil, Louie Cordero, Mac Valdezco, Peter de Guzman, and Leeroy New.
Through visual representations of institutional awards and the 2024 awardees’ bodies of work, Luminaries and Legacies seeks to deepen the audiences’ appreciation for the contributions of the awardees and the impact of the institution on the country’s cultural landscape.
Luminaries and Legacies: CCP Gawad Para sa Sining 2024 & Other CCP Institutional Awards opens on 20 September 2024 at 5:30pm. The exhibition will be on view at the Jaime Zobel Sr. Hall, 5th floor, Samsung Performing Arts Theater at Circuit Makati until 27 September 2024.
