DESCRIPTION:

Ancient Babylon comes to life in a classic Met staging of biblical proportions featuring a renowned international cast. Georgian baritone George Gagnidze stars as Nabucco, the imperious king of Babylon, alongside Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska in the role of his vengeful daughter Abigaille. Singing the lovers Fenena and Ismaele, whose love transcends politics, are mezzo-soprano Maria Barakova, and South Korean tenor SeokJong Baek. Bass Dmitry Belosselskiy repeats his celebrated portrayal of the high priest Zaccaria. Daniele Callegari conducts Verdi’s exhilarating early masterpiece.

The opera is renowned for its powerful choruses, particularly the famous and moving “Va, pensiero,” also known as the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves; the ultimate showcase for the great Met Chorus. This chorus expresses the longing of the Hebrew people for their homeland. “Nabucco” remains one of Verdi’s most popular and frequently performed operas.

The Met: Live in HD Season 8 is a series of screenings of the latest performances by the Metropolitan Opera of New York, delivered in high-definition video and Dolby Surround Sound.
