As the premier arts and culture institution in the country, the Cultural Center of the Philippines has always persisted in its leadership idea on Philippine Creative Industries programs. The Arts Education Forum slated on September 6 and 7 from 9am to 5pm at the Tanghalang Ignacio B. Gimenez gathers arts educators, teachers, artist-teachers, community leaders, and parents who will participate in various talks and presentations on arts education strategies addressing the 21st Century Skills Learning: Values, Thinking Outside the Box, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Resilience, and Stress Tolerance. The forum will also be livestreamed.
Moderated by Far Eastern University Digital Content Creation and Development director Flordeliz Abanto, the forum focuses on arts education as an important tool to engage and teach children to be creative, communicative, collaborative, and critical thinkers.
When it comes to navigating global challenges, arts education can equip children with the skills and perspectives necessary to address the intricacies of environmental and technological advancements.
CCP vice-chair Margarita Moran-Floirendo will open the program on September 6, with keynote talk on “Understanding the Generation” by Dentsu International global president Merlee Jayme.
It will be followed by a talk on “Arts Education in Nurturing the Next Generation of Artists” by CCP president ad interim Michelle Nikki Junia.
A session on “Calibrating Social Values – Cultivating Grit” will be presented by Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) executive director Gloriosa Cabangon and Jose Rizal Memorial State University Dipolog faculty member Dr. Felimon Blanco.
Tanghalang Pilipino artistic director Fernand Josef will discuss “Calibrating Social Values – Mindful Sensing of Nation”; while MSU Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography Sama Studies Center director Altan Ishmael will have “Calibrating Social Values – Enhancing Communication” session, and Black Canvas founder/artistic director Abner Torres Delina Jr. caps the first day of the forum with “Problem Solving and Thinking Outside the Box.”
On September 7, Acacia Waldorf School College of Teachers chairperson Trina Galvez opens the second-day with a session on “Problem Solving and Thinking Outside the Box,” followed by a session on Critical Thinking Skills led by new media educator- entrepreneur Mark Meily.
Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, pediatrician Palanca Hall of Famer for Children’s Books, and game content developer Duane Banzon take over the next sessions on Problem Solving and Thinking Outside the Box.
MLAC Institute for Psychological Services, Inc. president Dr. Lourdes Honey Carandang and Perpetual Health Medical Center Las Piñas – Psychology of Mind Care Center chief psychologist Prof. Mariflor Gatchalian will be the speakers for the sessions on “Resilience, Stress Tolerance, and Flexibility.”
