Clement Acevedo, pianist with “a biting rhythmic drive,” has performed in China, the Philippines, and the United States.  He was First Prize Winner of the 2004 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), Piano Category C, and semi-finalist of the 2009 Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition. He has appeared as a soloist of the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra, UST Symphony Orchestra, and James Madison University Symphony Orchestra. An enthusiastic chamber musician, he has been invited to perform in professional music festivals in the Philippines and abroad. At Staunton Music Festival he performed Chester Biscardi’s Traverso with Mary Boodell, principal flutist of the Richmond Symphony. The composer hailed the performance as “beautiful and poetic.” At the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival he performed with Daniel Lichti, one of Canada’s finest bass baritones.  Most recently, he performed with Charles Ullery, principal bassoonist of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He enjoys four/eight-hand repertoire and has performed with Moritz Eggert, Gila Goldstein, Heini Kärkkäinen, Carsten Schmidt, Raul Sunico, and Andrew Tyson.

Acevedo earned degrees from the University of the Philippines, Temple University, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and James Madison University where he taught as a graduate teaching assistant/fellow. His academic career has allowed him the opportunity to be a performer, scholar, educator, and administrator. Eastern Mennonite University offered him the interim piano professor position (2016-17), and there he taught piano and music history and coordinated piano area activities. An artistic visionary, he served as the president-elect of Harrisonburg Music Teachers’ Association (2016-18), a 40-member group which organizes monthly events and invites artists and clinicians throughout the academic year. He is currently the vice-president of Piano Teachers Guild of the Philippines (PTGP), Panay Chapter.

Acevedo studied with eminent pedagogue Harvey Wedeen.  At the Brandywine International Piano Institute, he was one of five pianists chosen to participate in the piano class of renowned pedagogue Anthony di Bonaventura. He has played in masterclasses by renowned pianists including Malcolm Bilson, Dorothy Taubman, Roberto Poli, Yuan Sheng, Reynaldo Reyes, and Jose Maceda. His other piano teachers include Gabriel Dobner, Igor Resnianski, Carl Cranmer, Ariel Dechosa, Jovianney E. Cruz, Augusto Espino, and Felicitas Roldan.

He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of San Agustin Conservatory of Music in Iloilo City, where he teaches piano literature, accompanying and music history, and serves as a resource person in the institution’s Office of Research.
