CCP MET OPERA IN HD FEATURES VERDI’S FALSTAFF IN SEPTEMBER

FALSTAFF, a Shakespearean comedy by Giuseppe Verdi is the featured opera at CCP’s The Met: LIVE in HD Season 8 on September 5, 2023 at Cinema 1, Greenbelt 3, in Makati City at 5:30pm.   

This comedic opera that takes place in 14th century England talks about Sir John Falstaff, a lazy knight, who plans to seduce the wives of well-off Windsor men in order to fix his bill accumulation at an inn.  But the two women catch onto his plan and plan to pay him back with a hard lesson. Directedby Robert Carsen, with HD by Habib Azar, and conducted under the baton of Maestro Daniele Rustioni, baritone Michael Volle leads the cast as he sings his first Verdi role at the Met as Falstaff.  Joining the cast are Hera Hyesang Park as Nannetta, Ailyn Pérez as Alice Ford, Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Mistress Quickly, Jennifer Johnson Cano as Meg Page, Bogdan Volkov as Fenton, and Christopher Maltman as Ford.

The screening of the opera will be highlighted with a performance of the arias Dal labbro il canto estasito vola and Amor ti vieta by tenor Nomher Narito Nival.

Nomher NivalNomher Narito Nival is a First Prize winner of the 2007 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), Male, Category A and the 2015 Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competition (Male Category).  He was also the recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Steyer Encouragement Award at the prestigious Marcello Giordani Foundation International Vocal Competition 2013 in Vero Beach, Florida.  He was part of the prestigious Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan (2012 and 2015) and had the privilege to sing under the baton of Metropolitan Opera conductor Fabio Luisi.  He also worked with baritone Roberto Servile (2012), soprano Marlis Petersen (2012) and soprano Gabriella Tucci (2015).  Nival is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Randy Gilongo.  He is also part of the Viva Voce Voice Lab under Camille Lopez-Molina.  He later studied under Arthur Espiritu and Nelly Miricioiu.

The Met Opera in HD Season 8 is a collaboration of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Filipinas Opera Society Foundation, Inc., and Ayala Malls Cinemas.  It offers a spectacular array of operas from notable names such as Giordano, Humperdinck, Mozart, and Verdi.  The show runs through the months of July to December, having regular show schedules on Tuesdays at 5:30pm each month.

Forthcoming operas are Fedora by Umberto Giordano on October 3Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck on November 7, and the season ends with Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte to be shown on December 5.

The Met Opera in HD likewise features a glimpse at behind the stage scenes and exclusive interviews with the people who made each and every production possible. Furthermore, its availability at cinemas makes it easier for fans to catch the shows without having to go all the way to New York.

Tickets are priced at PHP450.  Students and young professionals may enjoy the screenings at PHP100.00 upon presentation of valid IDs. Tickets are available at Greenbelt ticket booths and the website www.sureseats.com.
