Classical music is alive and well at the CCP! The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) continues to bring enjoyable and uplifting music with the new PPO RECITAL SERIES, a monthly online performance of standard classical repertoire by selected members of the PPO. Carefully programmed by PPO Music Director and Principal Conductor Yoshikazu Fukumura, this new series highlights the different instruments of the orchestra in a recital format. The live performances at the CCP will be individually streamed on the CCP and PPO Facebook pages every last Friday of the month.

Once again, audiences from all over the country and around the world can enjoy performances of the members of the country’s premier orchestra in the comfort of their homes through these virtual recitals! Aside from educating audiences on classical music appreciation, the series is envisioned to provide solace and joy to people from all walks of life in this time of great challenges. The PPO wishes to make the aural and visual experience of classical music more accessible to everyone through online platforms.

The premiere episode of the series features flutist Hercules Santiago in his performance of Otar Taktakishvili’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, with Mary Anne Espina on the piano. Santiago studied at the University of the Philippines College of Music, Major in Flute, under the tutelage of Prof. Eric Barcelo. He won 1st Runner-up in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists as Flute Category C in 1995. He is also an active member and conductor of two famous marching bands in Pampanga: Ocampo’s Band 46 of Betis and Band 31 of Sasmuan.
