DESCRIPTION

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Philippine Band Association (Philbanda), the Cultural Center of the Philippines presents PERFECT 10, a virtual concert featuring the 60- piece Philbanda Wind Orchestra, with the special participation of the Philippine Baton Twirling Association. The online event will be directed by Dennis Marasigan and hosted by Ice Seguerra.

Philbanda is the country’s sole professional wind orchestra. Its current Conductor and Music director is Maestro Herminigildo Ranera of the UST Conservatory of Music.

As one of the highlights of the virtual concert, young talents from Metro Manila and local participants from different regions will join the Philbanda Wind Orchestra in the premiere performance of Ranera’s New Normal Concert March, a golden opportunity for the local musicians to perform with professional group via virtual platforms.

The experience of the musicality and pageantry of marching bands will not be complete with baton twirlers. Thus, this virtual concert also features the special participation of the Philippine Baton Twirling association, an organization that has been training and developing young baton twirlers for years. This participation will not only showcase their talent in baton twirling but will inspire local majorettes to improve their skills as well.

PERFECT 10 – The Philbanda 10th Anniversary Virtual Concert, is a project of the CCP Office of the President’s SINING SIGLA Program. Under the leadership of CCP President Arsenio “Nick” LIzaso, this program aims to continuously reach out to the public, even in the midst of the pandemic, by providing artistic and culturally-relevant content online. Past programs include ‘Jazz Stay At Home’ (Jazz Festival), ‘MALA’ (Movies Adapted from Literary Arts), ‘Sigla ng Pasko,’ ‘Awit at Dula: Pagbabalik-tanaw sa Unang Hari ng Balagtasan,’ and PINTIG – A Percussion Festival.’

For updates and more information, please follow the CCP Office of the President on Facebook.

Philbanda was formally registered on July 28, 2011, through the effort of Mr. Jose Jerry Samonte together with Ariel Sta. Ana and other PPO members. But the seed of its formation was planted by its current Conductor and Music director Herminigildo Ranera of the UST Conservatory of Music. His initial involvement with the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association in 1984; the participation of the UST Wind Orchestra in the 4th Asian Band Festival and competition in Thailand; and his eventual meeting with the officers of the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association, paved the way to the formation of the Philippine Band Association or Philbanda.

Philbanda performed in the 17th conference and band festival of the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association in Singapore in 2012. PHILBANDA hosted the Banda Rito, Banda Roon CCP National Symphonic Band Festival in 2012, The CCP Wind and Jazz Festival in 2016 and the Banda Rito, Banda Roon Band Festival in 2018.

The Philbanda Wind Orchestra, is a symphonic band which consists of woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments. Its orchestra members are mostly professionals, majority are members of the PPO.
