ABOUT THE EVENT:
Artist Talk Series 2024: Thirteen Artists in Conversation
How do artists today imagine identity, community, and survival? Across four sessions, the 2024 Thirteen Artist Awardees share their practices, offering urgent perspectives on memory, ecology, materiality, and care.
October 11 — Artist Talk 1: Bodies, Myths, and Intimacies
Catalina Africa, Russ Ligtas, Joshua Serafin, and Jel Suarez open the series with works that move between cosmology, endurance, queer futurity, and intimate archives. Together, they ask how bodies carry memory and myth, and how art can hold both vulnerability and wonder.
November 8 — Artist Talk 2: Identity, Memory, and Postcolonial Thought
Liv Vinluan, Henrielle Pagkaliwangan, and Denver Garza explore how history, identity, and community shape artistic practice. From archives of mourning and colonial inheritance to participatory monuments of care, these artists reframe the ways we see ourselves and one another.
November 22 — Artist Talk 3: Materials in Flux: Process, Form, and Movement
Ella Mendoza and Tekla Tamoria foreground material process and experimentation. Together, they unravel how materials such as thread, clay, and surface, become vessels of emotion and inquiry, continually shifting between states of fragility and resilience.
December 6 — Artist Talk 4: Advocacy, Environment, and Collective Survival
Issay Rodriguez and Derek Tumala bring urgency to the stage: how can art engage ecological crisis, social fractures, and the ethics of survival? Their practices merge research and ritual, activism and poetics, calling us to imagine futures sustained by care.
