DESCRIPTION:

Sayaw ng mga Ilaw is a movement-based theater piece for young audiences, based on Cheeno Marlo Sayuno’s beloved children’s short story which was given honors by the International Board on Books for Young People.  TP takes on the responsibility of retelling a significant event in our history and reinforces the values we hope to pass on to our audiences.

Set in 1981 and marked by the official lifting of Martial Law by then President Marcos Sr., Sayaw ng mga Ilaw tells of young Laya’s dreams of learning the traditional Pandanggo dance with the help of her older sister.   But when their father, a construction worker at the Manila Film Center, fails to return home after the building collapses, their family is plunged into uncertainty and grief.  As they navigate loss and search for healing, Laya discovers that true light can be found not only in dance, but also in the strength and love of her family.
