Classical music is alive and well at the CCP! The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) continues to bring enjoyable and uplifting music with the PPO RECITAL SERIES, a monthly online performance of standard classical repertoire by selected members of the PPO. Carefully programmed by PPO Music Director and Principal Conductor Yoshikazu Fukumura, this series highlights the different instruments of the orchestra in a recital format. The filmed live performances at the CCP will be individually streamed on the CCP and PPO Facebook pages every last Friday of the month. Aside from educating audiences on classical music appreciation, the series is envisioned to provide solace and joy to people from all walks of life in this time of great challenges. The PPO wishes to make the aural and visual experience of classical music more accessible to everyone through online platforms.

To welcome the New Year, the third episode of the series showcases the warm, brassy notes of the French horn, and features horn player Ernani Pascual in his performance of Hermann Eichborn’s Sonate fur Waldhorn und Klavier, Op. 7 with Mary Anne Espina on the piano. Pascual is a winner of the National Music Competitions for Young Artist (NAMCYA) in the Horn Solo Category (3rd Prize) and the Chamber category (1st Prize). He received his musical training at the University of Santo Tomas, Conservatory of Music. He has performed in local and international concert halls and music festivals, and worked with various artists. Ernani was one of the 14 Filipino musicians who was in the orchestra of the Best Musical Play of all time, The Phantom of the Opera in Manil. He was also the acting Principal Horn during the historic PPO concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York City. Ernani Pascual is currently the Assistant Principal of the Horn section of the PPO.
