The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s (PPO) 38th concert season, “Metamorphosis,” continues the search for its new Music Director. The sixth series concert features award-winning young conductor Maestro Haoran Li, one of the conductors shortlisted for the Music Director position. Joining him on the Met concert stage is our very own Diomedes Saraza on violin, who will be the soloist in Jean Sibelius’ D minor Violin Concerto. The programme also includes Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and Filipino composer Antonino Buenaventura’s “By the Hillside.”
HAORAN LI, conductor
Award-winning young conductor Haoran Li steps on the dais for PPO’s 6th series concert as one of the conductors shortlisted for the Music Director position. Li was Assistant Conductor of China Philharmonic Orchestra from 2019 -2020 and the National Center for the Performing Arts Beijing,China in 2018. For the 2022-2023 season, he led concerts with La Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Romanian Radio National Orchestra, Lasi Philharmonic Orchestra, Banatul Philharmonie Orchestra of Timișoara, Beijing SymphonyOrchestra, and Sichuan Symphony Orchestra.
DIOMEDES SARAZA, violin
Diomedes Saraza started playing the violin at the age of three. He gained attention and became a prominent violinist in the Philippines after winning first place at the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) in 2002. He became the youngest member of the Manila Symphony Orchestra at age 13. Saraza received both his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School in 2015. One of his notable concert engagements the performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in the historic concert of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in New York’s Carnegie Hall, under the baton of Olivier Ochanine. Today, he is the concertmaster of the Manila Symphony Orchestra.
