The CCP proudly presents FORTE, the 40th Concert Season of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO). This landmark season showcases an exciting program of classical masterpieces and newly commissioned works, performed by a distinguished lineup of Filipino and international soloists, all under Maestro Grzegorz Nowak.

 FORTE begins with its inaugural concert, “FIESTA!” featuring the acclaimed violinist Shlomo Mintz, under the baton of Grzegorz Nowak. Get ready for an unforgettable evening as PPO’s milestone concert season kicks off with a captivating program that promises to enchant and inspire:

  • Jeffrey Ching’s Fiesta Contrapuntistica – Experience a dazzling display of contemporary creativity in this dynamic new work by PPO’s 40th Concert Season Composer-in-Residence.
  • Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 – Be mesmerized by the extraordinary violinist Shlomo Mintz as he brings this beloved masterpiece to life with his virtuoso performance.
  • Richard StraussEin Heldenleben, Op. 40 – Journey through the heroic and sweeping landscapes of Strauss’ powerful symphonic poem.

Our featured soloist, Shlomo Mintz, is renowned for his extraordinary violin artistry and versatile technique. Acclaimed globally for his dynamic performances and numerous prestigious awards, Mintz has collaborated with legendary musicians and orchestras. The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra is the country’s leading orchestra. It was established in 1973 as the CCP Philharmonic Orchestra, which was originally intended to accompany performing artists at the CCP Main Theater. In 1979, it was reorganized through the efforts of former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos together with Maestro Oscar C.  Yatco. The PPO has since collaborated with renowned Filipino and foreign artists either as soloists or conductors. It continues to promote music appreciation among Filipinos through its regional outreach concerts and workshops. The PPO is now headed by its new Music Director and Principal Conductor, Maestro Grzegorz Nowak.

Polish conductor Grzegorz Nowak is the new Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. A much-sought-after conductor with a long career in opera and concerts, Maestro Nowak is a highly-esteemed Permanent Associate Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. He was the music director of the Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Poland, from 2017 to 2020, and other orchestras in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, and the USA. For years, he was able to record orchestral music in over 80 CDs that have received awards and 5-star ratings.

 

Grzegorz Nowak’s career propelled to international level after he won various prestigious awards and prizes. He has performed alongside many of the most widely respected soloists of our time, including Martha Argerich, Yefim Bronfman, Nigel Kennedy, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Mstislav Rostropovich, Gil Shaham and Krystian Zimerman, and has worked with such singers as Janet Baker, Kathleen Battle, Marilyn Horne, Gwyneth Jones, Sherrill Milnes and Anja Silja.

ABOUT THE SOLOIST:

Shlomo Mintz is widely acclaimed as one of the foremost violinists of our time, celebrated for his exceptional musicianship, stylistic versatility, and commanding technique. A prominent guest artist with major orchestras and conductors, Mintz has earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Premio Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana and the Gramophone Award. He has also been honored with an Honorary Degree from Ben-Gurion University and named Honorary Fellow of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

Born in Moscow and raised in Israel, Mintz studied under Ilona Feher and Dorothy DeLay, and has collaborated with legendary artists such as Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, and Zubin Mehta. In addition to his celebrated violin career, he has made his mark as a conductor and is a co-founder of the Keshet Eilon International Violin Mastercourse and the Violins of Hope project.

Mintz’s recordings have been re-released to celebrate his 60th birthday, showcasing his work with major orchestras and conductors. He continues to inspire as a mentor, jury member, and teacher, and his online Academy connects young violinists worldwide.
