FRANKENSTEIN MAKES ITS COMEBACK WITH A NEW CREATURE

Sep 24, 2024 | Press Release

The CCP National Theater Live continues its second season with the return of the thrilling and deeply disturbing classic tale Frankenstein on September 24, 2024, at 6 PM, at the Greenbelt 3 Cinema in Ayala Malls, Makati.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature is determined to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

Scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development, and the nature of good and evil are embedded in this gripping Gothic classic by English novelist Mary Shelley.

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the 1818 iconic novel, Frankenstein was captured live on stage in 2011, directed by Academy Award®-winner Danny Boyle, the visionary behind Trainspotting, 127 Hours, 28 Days Later, and the 2009 Academy Award-winning Best Picture Slumdog Millionaire, among others.

The production, shot with state-of-the-art filming techniques, features actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, alternating between the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature.

One of the world’s most acclaimed and popular Hollywood actors, Cumberbatch is known for his roles as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Universe franchise films and as Sherlock Holmes. Miller is recognized for his performances in Elementary, Trainspotting, and Hackers.

For the September 24 screening, Miller will play the Creature, while Cumberbatch will take on the role of Frankenstein. In the previous season, the CCP screened the alternate version, with Cumberbatch as the Creature.

On the same date, September 24, CCP NTL will premiere The Motive and The Cue at Ayala Malls Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu.

Inspired by Letters from an Actor by William Redfield and John Gielgud Directs Richard Burton in Hamlet by Richard L. Sterne, the play follows Richard Burton, an actor newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, playing a title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under the exacting direction of John Gielgud. As rehearsals progress, two eras of theater collide, and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel.

Actor Johnny Flynn portrays Richard Burton, while Mark Gatiss plays John Gielgud and Tuppence Middleton appears as Elizabeth Taylor.

In this fierce and funny new play by Jack Thorne, The Motive and The Cue offers a glimpse into the politics of a rehearsal room and the relationship between art and celebrity.

The play premiered at the National Theatre, where it enjoyed a highly acclaimed, sold-out run. Due to popular demand, it later moved to the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End for a limited engagement.

First launched in June 2009, National Theater Live is a groundbreaking project that broadcasts the best of British theater live from the London stage to cinemas across the United Kingdom, around the world, and now in the Philippines. NTL films its plays in front of live theater audiences, optimizing them for the big screen and making them accessible to theater fans globally.

Regular ticket prices are Php300.00 in Makati and Cebu, and Php350.00 in Vertis North, while special student tickets are priced at Php150.00. Tickets can be purchased at sureseats.com.
