DESCRIPTION:

The body of work results from the artist Caroline Ongpin’s ongoing investigation regarding shared Philippine and Mexican roots, developed in conjunction with her artist residency in Puebla City, México. The formation of these interlinked roots began during the galleon trade, and while much of this epoch’s history has been directed by the colonizer’s viewpoint, the stories of the colonized have been made peripheral or even discarded. The pieces in this exhibition present another perspective into the past meanwhile challenging colonial Spain’s centrality within these histories.
