Join us in this buoyant concert featuring an array of songs and musical numbers from well-loved Broadway and West End productions such as Pippin, A Chorus Line, Chicago, Rent, Wicked and many more. Starring some of the country's most talented and fresh-faced triple threats from the English musical theatre scene.  Liesl Batucan was recently elevated to the Aliw Awards Hall of Fame for Best Actress for having been a three-time Aliw Award Winner for Best Actress -- twice in a Straight Play for her roles as the blind protagonist Susy in WAIT UNTIL DARK (2014) and as the iconic Paula in A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS FILIPINO (2009) and once in a Musical as Maria in BALER SA PUSO KO (2010). She is also a two-time Philstage Gawad Buhay Awardee for Best Female Featured Performance in a Musical for her performance as the Beggarwoman in SWEENEY TODD (2009) and in a Straight Play for her role as Karen in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY (2014).

 

With an extensive body of work with Repertory Philippines spanning a little over two decades and around 100 theatre productions ranging from dramas, comedies and musicals, to Shakespearean classics and children’s theatre, she has showcased her versatility in such diverse roles as Maria in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, Audrey in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, Luisa in The FANTASTICKS, Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ, Philia in A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, Emily Webb in OUR TOWN, Amy in AMY’S VIEW, Portia in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, Juliet/Lady Capulet/Nurse in ROMEO AND JULIET, Beatrice/Hero in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, Theda Blau in IT HAD TO BE YOU, myriad roles in THE GOOD DOCTOR, THE ACCOMPLICE, and I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE (Aliw Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical), as well as in such productions as Upstart’s hilarious hit FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, among countless others. She has also breathed life into such fairytale favorites as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty, Princess Jasmine, Alice in Wonderland, The Blue Fairy and Pinocchio, to name a few.

 

She has also tread the boards of the CCP Tanghalang Pilipino stage, most recently as Señor Apolinario Mabini in the steampunk musical MABINING MANDIRIGMA. She also appeared in its critically-acclaimed productions of GOLDEN CHILD (Gawad citation for Best Actress), AMERICAN HWANGAP (Gawad citation for Best Female Featured Perfomance), and STAGESHOW (Aliw Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical).

 

For the CCP, she recently directed a family concert featuring the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra: FLOWANDA AND THE GUARDIANS OF VOLCANO MILAVA.

 

Liesl has performed Off-Broadway at the La Mama theatre in New York, as well as in various concerts/musical productions abroad. She also hosted an interactive television game show in Budapest, Hungary.

 

She has worked in local film and television with some of the country's most prestigious directors and has lent her voice to countless radio ads and dubbing projects.

 

Liesl is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of the Philippines, former corporate finance consultant with SGV & Co., and former Treasurer of Repertory Philippines. She is currently the Associate Artistic Director of CCP's resident theatre company Tanghalang Pilipino.
