The Music Director of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra Tetsuji Honna leads the PPO in their 5th concert for this season. Winner of several prizes, including the First Prize at the Tokyo International Conducting Competition (1985), First Prize at the Budapest International Conducting Competition (1992), and Second Prize at the Toscanini International Conducting Competition (1990). Maestro Honna has led orchestras such as the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Zabreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. He held the post of conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra and was regular guest conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra.
With him is the award-winning pianist and pedagogue April Dawnena Merced-Misa. Born and raised in Cotabato, April has lived and trained solely in the Philippines with the best local mentors, honing her craft through full scholarships at the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) and the University of the Philippines College of Music. She has won several tilts, notably the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and two concerto competitions, paving the way for her orchestral debut playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto in B-flat minor.
Program includes Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #1 and Symphony #3 “Eroica”.
