DESCRIPTION:

The first Chromatext exhibit, featuring poetry cum visual art by members of the Philippine Literary Arts Council (PLAC) was mounted in 1983 at Pinaglabanan Galleries in San Juan, Metro Manila.

The following year, Chromatext 2 was exhibited in the same venue, as hosted by Pinaglabanan Galleries director and sculptor Agnes Arellano.

PLAC members who participated in these shows included the founding members of the Council, namely Gémino H. Abad, Cirilo F. Bautista, Ricardo M. de Ungria, Alfrredo Navarro Salanga and Alfred A. “Krip” Yuson, as well as subsequent members Juaniyo Arcellana, Felix Fojas, Eric Gamalinda, Marne Kilates and Cesare A.X. Syjuco.

In January 2007, Chromatext Reloaded was displayed at the CCP Main Gallery. It included works by a total of 87 poet-friends and artist-friends of PLAC from here and abroad.

Co-curated by then CCP Visual Arts director and poet-painter Sid Gomez Hildawa, multi-media artist Jean Marie Syjuco and poet Krip Yuson, the show enjoyed strong viewership, especially among littérateurs and students, all throughout six-week run.

This year, Chromatext Rebooted will be on display in Bulwagang Juan Luna (Main Gallery) and Pasilyo Juan Luna (Main Gallery Hallway) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines from November 6, 2015 to January 17, 2016. Co-curated by Jean Marie Syjuco and Krip Yuson, this long-awaited sequel will be conducted in conjunction with the CCP’s Performatura Spoken Word Festival that also starts on November 6, 2015.

The group show involves artworks based on, coupled with, or related to words/poems/prose, or any kind of visual art executed by poets/writers, including abstract, sculptural, conceptual and digital works. Collaborations between writers and artists are also featured. Over a hundred poets and artists are expected to participate.
