13 Artists Awardees
The 13 Artists Awards: it means as it sounds. It is an ominous and omen-like numeric title that popular superstition would probably avoid, but it has proven to be stronger than its own ghosts.
As the years have come and gone, so have, inevitably, artistic visions and missions of contemporary artists – and specifically, onto the emergence of the younger crop who have newer, if not different, things to say about the presiding establishment. It would be difficult to assess how the layers of formats and concepts have compounded the original criteria that were first installed and contended with by the early generation of awardees in the 1970s. A resounding characteristic that runs common in each of the awardees and thus recognized by the jury is: the consistent exploration and investment in one’s own artistic vision.
