WorkingWithCollections-RoundtableDiscussion-Maceda100

THE CCP Visual Arts and Museum Division will be hosting a roundtable discussion with the participating artists from the exhibit Attitude of the Mind on October 7, Saturday, 3:00-5:00pm, in front of the CCP’s Bulwagang Juan Luna (Main Gallery). The conversation will focus on the theme of “Working with collections” and will be moderated by curator Dayang Yraola. The theme was conceived as part of the reflection on the process by which the exhibit Attitude of the Mind was built. The round table discussion aims to present the various creative exercises that artists engage in, which may have a practical or discursive contribution in the present conversations of various contemporary arts in the Philippines. Guests are invited to listen in on the conversation.

As a group, the artists will respond to this theme thru the following questions: What does a collection mean? What does it represent? Why working with a collection is a concern? Or why it should not be? What are the practical and ideological challenges were encountered and resolved? In connection with their individual practices as artists, musicians, designers, they may respond to this theme by: Sharing their experience in working with collections (including the Jose Maceda archive in the UPCE)? How did they approach it? What were their trajectories? To which extent working with collection affects the conception of their work? The participants may also raise other questions that might define what we mean and how “collection/s” are understood, and how it is relevant to different fields and practices.

The Attitude of the Mind exhibition is part of the 100th birth anniversary of National Artist for Music Jose Maceda. The exhibit will be on until December 3, 2017 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Roxas Blvd Pasay City. It may be viewed daily from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm (and until 10pm on nights with evening performances at the CCP Main Theater).
